10,000 capacity International Convention Centre (ICC), Awka, Anambra state, nears completion

The 10,000 capacity International Convention Centre (ICC), Awka, Anambra state is nearing completion, and is set to be commissioned by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state before the March 17, 2022, handover date.

Already series of events are being lined up at the centre which is an architectural showpiece. The roof of the ICC is designed in the shape of a stealth bomber plane.

Amongst other features, the ICC has the main auditorium that can sit 10,000 people, and also boasts of mini halls for much smaller events. It has an extensive parking lot, and it’s location along the old Enugu/Onitsha expressway, Amansea end, on the outskirts of Awka is another positive feature especially for traffic management, and Awka city decongestion.

According to Architect Michael Okonkwo, Anambra state Commissioner for Housing, who designed and has supervised the construction of the ICC, “Anambra is a unique state, so we needed a landmark design that can compete in design and functionality with other convention centres in the world. One of the ways to market a state or city to the rest of the world is through architectural designs, or what some people call architectural branding. I believe that we have achieved that for Awka and Anambra state with the International Convention Centre, Awka”.

The book, ‘Akpokuodike, Duty Call In Anambra’, written by Ike Chioke will be unveiled and introduced to the public on Wednesday, 9th of March, 2022, at the venue.
