At age 22, Oluwabamise Ayanwole was making a living as a tailor. Death found her in a BRT vehicle that belongs to the Lagos State Government. The prime suspect in her death – her body parts were found on the IBB Bridge in Lagos – is the bus driver.
Death is everywhere in Nigeria- in schools, in farms, at home, on the streets. Bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, ritualists, but we always felt comfortable around government facilities.
The driver had the guts to use a government-owned BRT vehicle for what seems like organised crime? How can we curb crime in this society?
It really hurts that our security agencies make no pretence of their inability to protect us. The driver has been arrested.
Will that return Oluwabamise to life?
Another sadness on International Women’s Day. May the Almighty console the families.
Rest in peace Oluwabamise.
