There was jubilation today, Saturday, 21st May, 2022, as 27 year – old Engineer Ifunanya Sylvia Onuigbo declared her intention to contest for Anambra State House of Assembly election, to represent Orumba South Constituency.
Engnr. Ifunanya made her intention known at the family’s country home in Akpu, Orumba South Local Government Area, in the presence of her kinsmen, youths of Akpu Community, members of her political party – Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Akpu and Orumba South.

While addressing the gathering, Ifunanya pointed out that her resolve to contest under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) was centered on the fact that the people can still be properly represented against all odds.
“Thank you all for honouring this passionate call despite my age and having not met some of you for the first time, I honestly feel humbled and privileged.”

Continuing, she said; “Coming to this decision honestly hasn’t been easy especially convincing my Dad. Having travelled around the world, it hurts me personally to see the state of things in our dear country and I will always ask my dad, despite all our rich human and natural resources, why have things remained the way they are in Nigeria? And my dad will always tell me that it is bad leadership. Sincerely, this is the reason why I am standing here today before you”.
“I choose YPP because I am young and progressive and YPP represents the goal and idea I have always represented. Today, I want to officially inform you that I have made up my mind. I am fresh, I am different, I am new and ready to stir the tide and I will be starting with my immediate constituency, Orumba South”.

Ifunanya went to say; “Honestly I have my fears too but i am passionately determined to face them with your support. Today I present myself to my party and Ndi Orumba South. I am here to serve and the service is selfless, Thank you”.
The Young Progressive Party (YPP) chairman, Orumba South Local Government Area thanked the young aspirant and encouraged her zeal and determination. The Chairman promised to give her all the necessary support and guidance as he advised her to relate well with all irrespective of class or age.
The Young Progressive Party YPP Orumba South woman leader prayed for the success of her intentions and assured her of women’s support, as she also advised her to always seek advice from party executive at all levels.
Chief Nkem Onuigbo, father of the aspirant in a vote of thanks, thanked all in attendance and sought their unalloyed support, noting that he is strongly behind his daughter.
There was refreshments and entertainment which provided opportunity for ‘Meet and Greet’, as Ifunanya went round interacting with guests.
