There is a saying that when there is life there is hope.
But for Mr Chukwuebuka Okoye, this saying might not have so much meaning to him after he became physically challenged at an old age making it difficult for him to fend for himself.
Mr. Okoye, a 33 year – old bachelor from Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state was until four years ago a successful businessman who dealt in generator sets in Bayelsa State when his predicament started.
He narrated that he was trying to test a generator for a customer when it exploded as a result of a faulty carburetor. This explosion gave him multiple degree burns around his body
According to the Enugwu-Ukwu born man, he has visited and lived in different orthopaedic hospitals in Nigeria spending over four million naira on bills and drugs yet without hope in sight.
He said the struggle to pay hospital bills and take care of other family and personal needs has drained him and his widowed mother who is a labourer.
Mr. Okoye pointed out that outside eating just once daily, the nights have been a nightmare for him because of the continuous sleepless nights as a result of pains and agony he goes through.
Acknowledging donations from some well meaning individuals over the years have enabled him to continue to see the light of the day, Mr Okoye begged the state government , non-governmental organizations and individuals to assist him togo back to the hospital for a permanent solution which will cost about 2.3 million naira.
Amidst cries, he revealed that he lives as a tenant in his own community where his landlord is already threatening to throw him out because of the smell oozing out of his body, and his inability to pay his rents for over three years.
He prayed for good health and an end to the pains in his life.
