Half Of A Yellow Corn

By Uche Nworah

Our daughter Chimamanda Adichie, a native of Abba, in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State shows in this picture that home is where the heart is. That despite the uncountable awards, globe trotting and fame, she is still a home girl.

Notice how she blended naturally into her environment. Perhaps some know her, and some may not. Many though may still recognize her as ‘Ada Adichie’ without knowing that she has become such a huge global cultural icon.

Observe the people going about their business. No fuss, no paparazzi. All seemingly working hard and contented with life, and with little.

This picture perhaps aptly captures everyday life in Chinua Achebe’s rural Africa. Pure and unadulterated, full of happiness, joy and peace. This was before we lost our virginity, and embraced madness in the name of civilization.
