President Muhammadu Buhari Congratulations Kenya’s New President

Nigeria’s President has congratulated President -Elect of Kenya, William Ruto on his victory at the just concluded Kenyan general election.

In a press statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, President Buhari commended the good people of Kenya for the peaceful and transparent outcome of the elections,which once again demonstrates that the democratic process, values and principles remain the best way for the people to select their leaders and hold them accountable.

“President Buhari says Nigeria values Kenya as a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism and violence extremism, buoyed by a long history of friendship, economic and trade ties, and effective collaboration through international organizations such as the African Union, the United Nations and the Commonwealth.”

The winner and Vice President, William Ruto who was declared the winner of Kenya’s presidential election amid dramatic scenarios has vowed to work with the opposition to move the Nation forward.

William Ruto, 55, running for the first time after serving as Vice President for 10 years, narrowly defeated his rival; Raila Odinga at the polls winning 50.5% of the vote, according to the official results.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, backing Mr Odinga to succeed him against his Vice William Ruto is yet to congratulate Ruto.

President Buhari also salutes President Uhuru Kenyatta for his statesmanship and exemplary leadership to the people of Kenya in the past nine years and the profound legacies of his administration.
