Three rape suspects has been arrested and handed over to the Nigerian Police in Awka.

It was gathered that the operation took place when National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person, NAPTIP, officials, alongside Anambra Vigilante Group security operatives legally invaded Enekwesumpu Nkpor and arrested the said suspects.

The arrest was as a result of complaint made by a 13 years old rape victim in Nkpor.

The victim, who was brought to the office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, was visibly in tears when narrating her ordeal.

The victim, who is from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, explained that she was raped by four boys namely Sunday, Emelie, Chiedu and Nwa awọ, but unfortunately Nwa awọ escaped when security operatives invaded the neighborhood.

She narrated that the said suspects were co-tenants with them, but took her to Nkisi river to rape her after they had an altercation with her father.

She further stated that she was first slapped by the boys, then dragged to Nkisi before she was ordered to remove her clothes as the suspects took turns to have carnal knowledge of her.

Reacting after listening to the victim, the state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, commended the victim’s courage in speaking up after the incident and assured her that she will ensure she gets justice.

The Women and Social Welfare Commissioner went further to register her displeasure over the increasing rate of rape incidents in the state, and warned that the Professor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration will not condone such.

She appreciated NAPTIP officials, Nigeria Police Force and Anambra Vigilante Group for their efforts in ensuring that these suspects were apprehended.

During interrogation, two of the suspects admitted committing the said crime, and pleaded that they be forgiven.

Another suspect however said he was only present when the incident happened, but contrary to his claims, the rape victim insisted that he was the second person to have carnal knowledge of her.

The suspects also noted that they decided to rape the girl due to the disagreement they had with the girls father.

The suspects, who have been handed over to the Police State CID Awka, would be arraigned in court for prosecution.
