A female inheritance bill has been signed into law by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, making it possible for women in Abia State to inherit and own properties in their father’s family.
It now has a law citation of ‘The Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022’.
Governor Ikpeazu, who congratulated women over the feat, said his administration would continue to support them.
He described the bill as historic, adding that women would no longer be treated as second-class citizens anywhere.
The Governor also appreciated the state assembly for the courage to pass the bill into law, and promised that his administration would be guided by reason and common sense in the discharge of its obligations to residents of the state.
