Old Naira Note Can Still Be Changed To New Notes Only At Central Bank After February 10 Deadline~CBN Governor

The Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed yesterday, 1st February 2023 that old naira notes can still be accepted and changed for new notes after the stipulated deadline of February 10th. This information left so many questions in the minds of Nigerians as what to do.

Throwing more light to the afore information, the Director of Corporate Communications Department at CBN, Osita, Nwanisobi, explained that the old note would no longer be used for transactions after February 10 but can still be changed to new notes only at CBN office if certain conditions are met. He however didn’t mention the conditions and the duration for the acceptance of old notes after the expiration of February 10th deadline.

Osita Nwanisobi, emphasized that in line with the provision of section 20 (3) of the CBN act, Nigerians can still change old notes to new notes even after a deadline at the Central Bank if they meet certain conditions.
