The Next Governor Of Lagos State Should Do More To Promote Race Relations

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D This is not an endorsement but my honest view of what I have observed as a Lagosian. I think Babajide Sanwolu has done well in Lagos, at least in the area of infrastructural development, although he can always do better. Should Lagosians vote him in again, he should do more in the area of promoting inter-race relations. He should run an inclusive government and invite people from other races/tribes into the government. President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu did this when he was Governor. Ben Akabueze, an Igbo man, was in his cabinet and he has kept faith with him ever since. The narrative against Igbos and other tribes has been toxic lately and this should not continue. The governor’s actions and body language normally helps to calm tensions among the tribes. ...

Re: If You Are An Igbo Man, Read With Open Mind And Think

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D I came across a write-up with the above caption on the Internet by an anonymous writer. In the write-up, the author tried but unsuccessfully to blame Ndigbo for the fate of Igbo musicians who have not been able to push their craft onto the global stage. According to the author; “I have always insisted that what praise singing and money worshipping highlife nkwa did to the psyche of the average Igbo musically is best called a tragedy. This singular musical taste corruption is why most Igbo musicians find it hard to hit the international markets”. I totally disagree with the unfortunate assertion and conclusion drawn there from. We should please not promote this type of self-hating diatribe. The writer is talking bollocks. I am not in the music business but I ...

Skitmaker Odogwu Bubu And Wife Aisha’s Public Spat

By Uche Nworah After watching the spat between skitmaker Odogwu Bubu and wife Aisha in a viral video, my conclusion was that art was conflicting with reality. Just in case you have not seen the video, Odogwu Bubu procured a tricycle (Keke) for the wife, Aisha, as ‘push gift’. This was to appreciate her for giving birth to their son. In his thinking, she would earn from the proceeds if the tricycle is enrolled into the transport business. Odogwu Bubu brought friends along to the presentation. Unfortunately, the wife did not find the ‘expensive joke’ funny and threw a tantrum. Words were exchanged, really bad ones too. Next, Odogwu Bubu’s friend, comedian Legendary Bamiyi drove in a Toyota Camry all wrapped in ribbon. This was actually meant to be the original ‘push gift’, b...

Little Things That Matter

By Uche Nworah, PhD I am glad to see that the ICT Centre built by Honourable Dozie Nwankwo is up and running. He is the member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, and also the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in the coming elections. The 350-capacity centre was commissioned by the Governor of Anambra state, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in December 2022. The centre which is located in Enugwu-Ukwu is to serve the people of his constituency, Dunukofia, Njikoka, Anaocha local governments and beyond. You can imagine my joy this morning as I saw these pictures online showing students learning ICT in the centre. Seeing even some of them wearing is...

Atiku Abubakar And Anambra’s Traditional Rulers

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, was in Anambra state this week for the PDP presidential campaign which held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. The candidate also took time out and interacted with traditional rulers in the state. This interaction has sparked controversy online, with many questioning if it was proper for Atiku to meet with the traditional rulers in a hall, and not the candidate visit them in their palaces. My knowledge about these things from my time in government is that candidates visit traditional rulers in their palaces. However, we have had the occasion where candidates meet with the traditional rulers at that conference room inside the government house, where the traditional rulers usually hold their meetings. ...

Itụ Nzu In Igboland

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D Nzu or kaolin is a white chunky chalk that normally adorns the home or Obi of a title holder in Igboland. Some people chew it for medicinal purposes. However, in Igboland, nzu is mostly known for its uses when the kolanut protocol or other native Igbo traditional protocols are being observed. In the olden days, it is said that anybody that rubs nzu on his body will not be kidnapped because since the person just left somebody’s house, it will be easy to trace the person’s movement based on the markings he must have made on the floor with nzu at the last place he visited. In Igboland, women do not mark nzu on the floor like men, rather they take it up and rub on their body. Nzu protocols are usually observed in the Obu. Each person has a distinct way of ...

As Chief Cletus Ibeto’s Choice FM Joins Anambra’s Crowded FM Radio Media Space

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D Nnewi, Anambra state - born billionaire businessman, Chief Cletus Ibeto, CON, has launched a radio station based in Nnewi, Anambra state. The station which is called Choice FM broadcasts on the frequency 97.1FM. It will be competing for share of voice, listenership and advertising marketshare in an already heavily congested, and highly competitive Anambra state FM broadcast media space. Over 22 FM stations currently operate in Anambra State and more are reportedly coming. The new trend observed is politically exposed individuals setting up radio stations to have their own voice. The already existing stations cater to different audience groups. Choice FM has a big battle in its hands if it wishes to upstage its immediate local competitor, Authority 91.9...

New Ebonyi State Market And South East Developmental Agenda

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D Ebonyi state Governor, Engineer Dave Umahi, and his team have done well constructing the new market, which President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly commissioned during his visit to Ebonyi state on Thursday, 5th May, 2022. It is good that each South - Eastern state is developing at its own pace, and based on the resources available to the various state governments. This was the idea back when Michael Okpara was Premier of Eastern Nigeria, during the First Republic.  If Ebonyi state can build this market, and it is sustainable, it’s good for them and also good for the South East economy. I don’t think that this warrants comparing it with markets in Anambra state, and then concluding that Ebonyi state has left Anambra state and other South -East states beh...

If God created us in his own image, then God and His Son Jesus Christ are also Africans

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D I grew up seeing the image of God and Jesus Christ being portrayed as white people while Satan is usually depicted as a black person.  As I sat in the beautifully designed St. Joseph Catholic Church, Aguleri for the requiem mass in honour of Late Eze Christopher Nwabunwanne Idigo, (Ogalagidi 11), I looked up to the roof and was confronted yet again by the painting of Jesus Christ and his disciples, as white people.  Similar  images adorn the church windows and altar at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mabushi, Abuja where I once worshipped. On enquiry, I was told that the specialist artists are imported from Lebanon. Imagine?  This got me thinking, why can’t we as Africans begin to change this narrative? Can a Church not commission Afric...
